About this very talented artist

LEIGH NICHOLSON

B.A. Ed (Secondary)QUT. B.A. Creative Arts (Fine)USQ.

Born in Brisbane 1973, Leigh Nicholson graduated Macgregor State High School in 1990 and went on to study a Bachelor of Creative Arts- (Fine Arts) University of Southern Queensland and a Bachelor of Education (Secondary) at Queensland University of Technology. Nicholson has been working professionally in a rural Tara since 1999. (A small country town 4 hours west of Brisbane).

Taking inspiration from national and international visual artists. Lecturers Piet Noest, Normana Wight andCharlie Boyle were influential in the early years in Toowoomba. They promoted Australian landscapes, mixed genres, light, studying the subtly of colour, abstraction and composition. Nicholson looks for beauty in nature and connecting with place that will inspire works. Reflecting on interesting studies of flora and fauna through photography and experimenting with drawing mediums are key to exploring and developing the composition.

Majoring in drawing, printmaking, photography and painting gave Nicholson the foundations and years of experience to be confident to teach and motivate others. In return, nurturing student’s skills in the Western Downs has had a positive impact on the wellbeing in the Tara community. Nicholson has recently had work exhibited at The Dogwood Crossing Gallery at Miles, Qld in conjunction with the Western Downs Council.
